Computer Science Courses

COSC 1301 - Microcomputer Applications
Overview of computer information systems. Introduces computer hardware, software, procedures, systems, and human resources and explores their integration and application in business and other segments in society. The fundamentals of computer problem solving and programming in a higher level programming language may be discussed and applied.  Lab fee $24.

COSC 1309 - Logic Design
A discipline approach to problem solving with structured techniques and representation of algorithms using pseudo code and graphical tools. Discussion of methods for testing, evaluation and documentation is included.

COSC 1315 - Fundamentals of Programming
Introduction to computer programming.Emphasis on the fundamentals of structured design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation. Includes coverage of language syntax, data and file structures, input/output devices, and disks/files.  Lab fee $24

COSC 1436 - Programming Fundamentals I
Introduces the fundamental concepts of structured programming. Topics include software development methodology, data types, control structures, functions, arrays, and the mechanics of running, testing, and debugging. This course assumes computer literacy.  Lab fee $24.

COSC 1437 - Programming Fundamentals II
Review of control structures and data types with emphasis on structured data types. Applies the objectoriented programming paradigm, focusing on the defi nition and use of classes along with the fundamentals of object-oriented design. Includes basic analysis of algorithms, searching and sorting techniques, and an introduction to software engineering.  Lab fee $24.

COSC 2430 - Advanced Programming Structured Languages
Further applications of programming techniques. Topics may include file access methods, data structures and modular programming, program testing and documentation, and other topics not normally covered in an introductory computer programming course. Visual BASIC is the language used.  Lab fee $24.

COSC 2436 - Programming Fundamentals III
Further applications of programming techniques, introducing the fundamental concepts of data structures and algorithms. Topics include recursion, fundamental data structures (including stacks, queues, linked lists, has tables, trees, and graphs), and algorithmic analysis.  Lab fee $24.
