- CDEC 1303 - Families, School and Community
- Study of the child, family, community, and schools. Includes parent education and involvement, family and community lifestyles, child abuse, and current family life issues. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Requires students to participate in a minimum of 16 hours field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations.

- CDEC 1311 - Educating Young Children
- An introduction to the education of the young child. Includes developmentally appropriate practices and programs, theoretical and historical perspectives, ethical and professional responsibilities, and current issues. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Requires students to participate in a minimum of 16 hours of field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1317 - Child Development Associate Training I
- Based on the requirements for the Child Development Associate National Credential (CDA). Topics on CDA overview, general observation skills, and child growth and development overview. The four functional areas of study are creative, cognitive, physical, and communication. This course requires students to participate in
30 hours of relevant field experiences.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1318 - Wellness of the Young Child
- Factors impacting the well-being of young children. Includes healthy behavior, food, nutrition, fitness, and safety practices. Focuses on local and national standards and legal implications of relevant policies and regulations. Course content is aligned with State Board of Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Requires students to participate in a minimum of 16 hours filed experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of setting with varied and diverse populations.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1343 - Independent Study in Child Development
- Study of an approved career topic. Research, presentation of findings, and practical applications are emphasized as they relate to the selected topic. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience. Departmental approval required for this course.

- CDEC 1354 - Child Growth and Development
- Physical, emotional, social, and cognitive factors impacting growth and development of children through adolescence.
Prerequisite: CDEC 1311 or TECA 1311.
- CDEC 1356 - Emergent Literacy for Early Childhood
- An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching young children language and literacy through a play-based integrated curriculum. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1358 - Creative Arts for Early Childhood
- An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching children music, movement, visual arts,
and dramatic play through process-oriented experiences to support divergent thinking. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1359 - Children with Special Needs
- A survey of information regarding children with special needs including possible causes and
characteristics of exceptionalities, intervention strategies, available resources, referral processes,
the advocacy role, and legislative issues.
- CDEC 1413 - Curriculum Resources for Early Childhood Programs
- A study of the fundamentals of curriculum design and implementation in developmentally appropriate programs for children. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.

- CDEC 1419 - Child Guidance
- An exploration of guidance strategies for promoting prosocial behaviors with individual and groups of children. Emphasis on positive guidance principles and techniques, family involvement and cultural influences. Practical application through direct participation with children. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 1421 - The Infant and Toddler
- A study of appropriate infant and toddler programs (birth to age 3), including an overview of development, quality routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
- CDEC 2307 - Math and Science for Early Childhood
- An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching math and science concepts and process skills through discovery and play. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
Prerequisite: TECA 1311 or CDEC 1311, CDEC 1413, or departmental approval.

- CDEC 2315 - Diverse Cultural/Multilingual Education
- An overview of multicultural education to include relationship with the family and community to develop awareness and sensitivity to diversity related to individual needs of children. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.

- CDEC 2322 - Child Development Associate Training II
- A continuation of the study of the requirements for the Child Development Associate National Credential (CDA). The six functional areas of study include safe, healthy, learning environment, self, social, and guidance. Must have departmental approval prior to enrolling in this course. In order to pursue CDA
credential, the student must be employed in a child care facility. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 2324 - Child Development Associate Training III
- Continuation of the requirements for the Child Development Associate National Credential (CDA). Three of the 13 functional areas of study include family, program management and professionalism. Must have departmental approval prior to enrolling in this course. In order to pursue CDA credential, the student must be employed in a child care facility. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
$24 lab fee.
- CDEC 2326 - Administration of Programs for Children I
- Application of management procedures for early child care education programs. Includes planning, operating, supervising, and evaluating programs. Topics cover philosophy, types of programs, policies, fiscal management, regulations, staffing, evaluation, and communication. Must have departmental approval prior to enrolling in this course.
Prerequisite: TECA 1311 or CDEC 1311.
- CDEC 2328 - Administration of Programs for Children II
- An in-depth study of the skills and techniques in managing early care and education programs, including
legal and ethical issues, personnel management, team building, leadership, conflict resolution, stress management, advocacy, professionalism, fiscal analysis and planning parent education/partnerships, and
technical applications in programs. Must have departmental approval prior to enrolling in this course.
Prerequisite: TECA 1311 or CDEC 1311.
- CDEC 2364 - Practicum - Child Development
- Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.
Prerequisite: TECA 1303 or CDEC 1303, TECA 1311 or CDEC 1311, TECA 1354 or CDEC 1354, TECA 1318 or CDEC 1318, CDEC 1356, CDEC 1357, CDEC 1358, CDEC 1394, CDEC 1413, CDEC 1419, and CDEC 1421, or concurrent enrollment, or approval of
department/chair/program advisor.
- CDEC 2441 - The School Age Child
- A study of appropriate programs for the school age child (5 to 13 years), including an overview of
development, appropriate environments, materials, and activities and teaching/guidance techniques. This course requires students to participate in 30 hours of relevant field experience.
Prerequisite: TECA 1311 or CDEC 1311 or concurrent enrollment or approval by department chair/program advisor.
