?Nocturne? by Winter Rusiloski “Nocturne” by Winter RusiloskiAn exhibit titled “memory. landscape. voyage” will be on display in the gallery of the Temple College Visual Arts Complex beginning Jan. 26.

The exhibit will feature abstract paintings by Winter Rusiloski, assistant professor of art at Baylor University. Rusiloski says varied landscapes serve as the inspiration for her work. She has explored the fusion of landscape painting with abstraction for the past 18 years.

Paintings in her new exhibit are inspired by recent travels to New York, Niagara Falls, Lake Erie, the New England coast, Santa Fe, the South Texas border and Big Bend. She recently acquired a remote property in Terlingua Ranch with an untouched landscape.

Dr. Scott Robinson, dean of humanities at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus, says this of Rusiloski’s work: “Each canvas is both a personal narrative fixed in time and a document of the universal human experiences described in the epic myths and literature the titles so often reference. Maneuvering visually through Winter’s compositions feels like watching an improvisational choreographer create dance, or a skilled rafter gracefully navigate the rapids of a wild river.

Rusiloski earned an MFA in painting from Texas Christian University. Her work has been featured in juried exhibitions across the country and is available for sale at galleries in Fort Worth and Dallas.

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through April 2.

The Temple College Visual Arts Complex is located at 2105 South 5th St. in Temple. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday or by appointment.
