Vocal Point, a student ensemble focused on musical theatre performing skills, will give a free concert titled ““On Our Way to Stardom,” on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 12:30 p.m. in the Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre.

The program will feature music about striving for the next job or big break to become a star. “Every member of Vocal Point, and pretty much every singer in the world can relate to this subject matter,” said director Dr. Sara Harris Baker. “The singers know the adrenaline of auditions and the excitement of being cast, or the rejection of being passed over, all of which will be explored in this 45-minute program.”

Among the highlights of the concert will be snippets from the original Broadway choreography of “A Chorus Line” recreated by choreographer JoAnna Langthorn, who was a member of the Broadway cast. The concert also will feature hits from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Sunset Boulevard,” TV’s hit musical show Smash,” and the movie “La La Land.” Other songs to be performed include the Lieber/Stoller composition “On Broadway” and Irene Cara’s radio hit “Fame.”

Vocal Point is made up of collegiate singers from Temple College and Texas A&M University – Central Texas. Accompanist for the group is David Perez-Guerra.

Admission to the concert is free, but seating is limited. The Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre is located in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. For more information on this concert and other events sponsored by the Temple College Fine Arts Division, call 254-298-8555.
