Members of the steering committee are Keifer Marshall, Jr., community chair, Jamie Clements, Rosemary B. Hauser, Dr. Paxton Howard, Jr., Ronnie Hobbs, Jack Jones, Jr., Dr. Harry B. Macey, Jr., Dr. Marc A. Nigliazzo, and Erroll Wendland. The Temple College…A Center of Excellence campaign is an integrated fund raising effort which has a goal of $8 million over four years. "The Temple College Board of Trustees, the Temple College Foundation Board of Directors and the Steering Committee are in total support of the Temple College…A Center of Excellence campaign," Rosemary B. Hauser, Foundation Executive Director, said. "The entire focus of the campaign and its goals is to ensure that Temple College is a center of excellence that provides programs that are truly excellent." Keifer Marshall, Jr. has had a long association with Temple College. He was a member of the original college Board of Regents when it was formed in 1959 and served as board president from 1965-67. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Temple College Foundation. A native of Temple, he graduated from Temple High School and then served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. Marshall was one of the survivors at the bloody Battle of Iwo Jima. After the war, he played football for the University of Texas at Austin and later was named to the Texas Longhorn Hall of Honor and was selected to receive the Admiral Thomas J. Hamilton Award presented by the All-American Football Foundation. He received his BBA degree at UT in 1950 and a year later graduated from the Institute of Insurance Marketing at Southern Methodist University. After returning to Temple in 1950, he founded the Keifer Marshall, Jr. Life Insurance Agency and he still serves as president of that company. He also is a partner in Touchstone Insurors of Temple and is engaged in farming and ranching. He started the Property and Casualty Insurance Agency in 1968 which was sold in 1990 to Anco Insurance. An active community leader, Marshall served two terms as Mayor and three terms as city councilman and mayor pro tem. He was named Temple Citizen of the Year in 1992 and received the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award in 2002. He has served as president or a board member for numerous organizations including the Temple Chamber of Commerce, Temple Industrial Foundation, Temple Public Library Board, Bell County Rehabilitation Center, Senior Citizens Activities Center of Temple, Institute for the Humanities at Salado, Board of Directors of First National Bank, Temple Economic Development Corporation, Santa Fe Memorial Hospital Foundation, Board of Directors for Scott and White Health Maintenance Organization, King's Daughters Hospital Association and the Cultural Activities Center. He and his wife Sammie have one son, Keifer Marshall, III, and two grandsons, Robert Marshall and Patrick Marshall.
